It's recorded for us all over the gospels that Jesus "saw" people.
"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheepwithout a shepherd." (Matthew 9:36-37)
"When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick." (Matthew 14:14)
"When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things." (Mark 6:34)
"And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, 'Do not weep.'" (Luke 7:13)
There are many more examples of Jesus seeing people. It's interesting how many times Jesus stopped on his way to heal someone or teach so that he could meet a spiritual need. He was never too busy to slow down and see people. Too often we run through our day accomplishing tasks, attending meetings, or grabbing a quick bite to eat without intentionally slowing down to see people in their brokenness.
This week, we will be praying each day that the Holy Spirit will help us slow down and be aware of people with an eternal perspective. This would be a great opportunity to pray together as a family or with another member in the church. We believe that when we pray, the Holy Spirit begins to align our desires with the Father's will. So begin praying this week for spiritual eyes to see people and their need for the gospel.
